A natural solution

Fat transfer can be an excellent option for subtly increasing breast volume or cleavage lines. This isn’t the surgery for someone that comes in asking for a massive change; most patients will have an amount injected that’s smaller than a typical implant uses. The amount of fat that can be injected depends on two factors: the amount of fat available and how big your breasts are, to begin with. In a general sense, if you’re really skinny you probably won’t have a lot of fat to inject. In addition, if you have smaller breasts, to begin with, you don’t have as much tissue to accept the transferred fat so less can be injected.

Breast augmentation with implants, more commonly known as a “boob job”, is one of the most common cosmetic surgeries performed, however, due to more natural and lasting solutions being available, Dr. Elston does not offer augmentation mammaplasty with breast implants. 

Breast implants require ongoing annual surveillance, ultrasound or MRI imaging, and implantation of a foreign device in the body. Breast implants can lead to secondary problems that require revision and are not a permanent solution for the above problems.  Common issues from breast implants can be related to sagging of the breasts over time from the weight of the implant, painful scar tissue around the implant called “capsular contracture”, or vague symptoms of illness that may or may not be related to the silicone used to construct implants. For these reasons, the Elston Clinic chooses to offer Breast Augmentation with fat transfer, Breast Lifts, and other natural solutions. 

Procedure and recovery

This procedure can be performed in either the clinic or in the operating room. Dr. Elston prefers to perform this in the clinic so you don’t have to undergo general anesthesia when the amount of fat removed is on the smaller end of the spectrum. Numbing medicine is first used to prepare the fat for removal and then the fat is prepared (washed and cleaned) for transfer to the desired area. This type of surgery only requires small incisions and the downtime and restrictions are typically less than larger breast surgeries.
