Labiaplasty is a procedure to reshape and rejuvenate the labia minora. This can be a life-changing surgery for someone that has had either cosmetic, emotional, or sexual issues related to their enlarged labia.
This type of procedure might be right for you if you've ever said:
“I have a hard time finding swimsuits that don’t show too much.”
“The extra skin causes a lot of rubbing during sex.”
“I’ve never liked the way it looks since puberty.”
There has been a long-standing negative perception about this surgery that it was related to promiscuous behavior which is categorically false and has been debunked by a mountain of medical evidence. Enlarged labia can happen during puberty or other changes in hormones and can even have a hereditary struggle.
Why labiaplasty?
Dr. Elston has treated patients who describe being unable to wear a swimsuit because their labia stick out the sides. There are others that only have sex with the lights off because they are embarrassed by the appearance of their vagina or even have pain with intercourse from friction on the extra tissue. The recovery time and pain are typically minimal, aside from no penetrative intercourse for 6 weeks after the surgery.
The procedure
Vaginal rejuvenation is usually performed in the clinic with numbing medicine and offers excellent patient comfort during the procedure. Numbing cream is initially used to dull the skin and then detailed markings are made to note any asymmetry that is present. Deeper numbing medicine is then used and excess skin is removed from the labia to reduce the length and bulk of the tissue. This procedure can be tailored to the patient’s wishes for the ultimate appearance of their labia, thus the term “designer vagina”.
